Well, I can say that this week has not been the best. However I think I have managed to salvage an OK total, mileage wise. A mixture of feeling under the weather, social events and boredom have made the week feel like a bit of a failure. However, all was not lost and I did manage a fairly decent 12 miles on Sunday. I’m re-reading Haruki Murakami’s ‘What I Talk about when I Talk about Running’ in an attempt to refuel my enthusiasm!

Today was my 20th run of my training plan, and I’m tired! It’s the first time that I have felt a tiny smidgen of “oh, I wish I didn’t have to do this” ! I feel guilty for admitting it – but I have tried to spend the day reassuring myself that it’s just part of the roller coaster which is Marathon training.  I ache also – the hard core pilates yesterday is hitting me in the shoulder blades and in my hamstrings. I need a massage…

Also, as Ray says, he can be the Apollo Creed to my Rocky

I took the spare place of a colleague at Pilates today. I’m not convinced that this was the best way to spend my lunchtime. It was a small class of 6, taken by a feisty teacher, who I immediately felt intimidated by and useless in front of. I am one of the most inflexible people you can find (especially for a runner) and had to endure an hour of being singled out as the poor new girl, who can’t touch her toes and doesn’t know how to tilt her pelvis whilst  dropping her ribcage. At one point she was lying next to me to show me how to do it, and then forcibly pushed my pelvis into place. The lesson ended with her shouting after me to make sure I stretch, or basically I will stay useless and feel stupid every time I am in a ‘touch your toes’ situation.

Today’s run was hard. I’m not feeling 100% and a late night/early morning didn’t help. I dragged myself out for a pretty pathetic 5 miles (it was supposed to be six…) Also, it was supposed to include 4 miles of fartlek. I tried, but the attempt was feeble.

The landscape was very uninspiring, the sky cloudy and the air damp. A far cry from my last run.

Today’s run was spectacular. I have been in Wales for the weekend, in the Brecon Beacon National Park. The sky was blue, the air crisp and the countryside stunningly still. There was a little snow underfoot and a sprinkling on the higher peaks. 11 miles zoomed by as I took in my surroundings, enjoying the fresh air and beautiful scenery. My knees were a little sore afterward and I could feel a slight tightness in my chest and throat – I hope its not a cold!

Tonight was  6 x 400m sprints, with 1 minute recovery. I didn’t feel the greatest but managed all 6 laps. It was drizzling so pretty miserable.

I woke at 5am this morning – something which I’m beginning to get used to, the night after a hard session. I made use of it and drank some smoothie and chomped down half a banana, ready for my morning run. It’s suddenly turned cold again and getting out of bed was a challenge. However its film club tonight and I don’t want to miss it, so moved my evening run to this morning. I don’t like running back to back, am/pm but sometimes its necessary if I want to hold onto some sort of social life! I was supposed to be running 1m jog, 4miles brisk, 1m jog. I’m not sure I hit ‘brisk’ – my body just couldn’t. The scenery – high rises.

Tonight I braved the dreaded Highgate Hill – the club’s winter run. The second mile is uphill – it goes on and on and hurts a lot. What more can I say.
